Samoens Ski Breaks

Samoens

Just one hour from Geneva airport! Leave your front door in the morning and be on the piste by lunchtime. Now that's what we call the perfect short break ski holiday destination.

Not merely convenient but Samoens really is a real jewel of the French Alps, the only ski resort listed as an historic monument due to it's medieval stone architecture, Samoens is a breathtakingly beautiful village. A traffic free centre, ancient linden trees, a stunning church, vibrant rural market, stone fountain and narrow streets all add to the effect as does the stunning views offered by the surrounding towering mountains.

Samoens has a thriving local community not entirely dependent on tourism which gives the visitor a real sense of modern French Alpine life. The shops are impressively varied the restaurants and bars are, as you would expect, traditional and full of good humour. Those wishing to sample a vibrant, late night life scene are offered a limited range, though the obligatory Irish bar, Coveys provides good craic.

And what about the skiing and snowboarding?

Awesome, this is France's 5th largest ski area on a par with Val d'Isere and Tignes for the extent and variety of the pistes. You get a real sense of travel across the resorts of Samoens, Morillon, Les Carroz and Flaine. Huge new investment continues to be ploughed into the modern lift and snow making systems!

The Grand Massif Express cable car just outside the village centre whisks you speedily into the heart of the local slopes at the “hilly, sunny plateau” of Samoens 1600. From here you can take a fast chair lift to over 2000m from where the whole of The Grand Massif ski areas 265km of pistes is at your mercy. The area combines everything you could wish for; a great snow record, high alpine open runs, magical wooded runs through the extensive forest areas and great mountain bars and restaurants in which you can rest your weary legs. Experts might wish to try the serious black runs, in the bowls off the back of the Tete de Saix heading towards Samoens whilst intermediates will appreciate almost the entire area and certainly the uncrowded pistes and queue free lifts.
